This is a movie that we were looking forward to watch and being that we are fans of Robert Rodriguez and his movies, we thought that you should know our opinion on this flick. First of all let us give you basic info on how this movie came about for the people that are not aware of how this movie was possible. You see this movie was not even going to happen, but due to a fake trailer in the double feature “Grindhouse” movie and the reaction that the the trailer received, Robert Rodriguez decided to make it into a full movie. In an interview a while back that Rodriguez gave, he mentioned that he had the story written a long time ago during the days of Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn.
Because of the online support and the reaction that this movie brought, Robert Rodriguez decided to make this movie a reality and Machete came to life to bring action, comedy, in a vigilante sort of way.
When we went to see the movie this Friday our thoughts were that we felt the movie was going to be disappointing, but we can say that we were quite impressed with everything. The cast in Machete performed an awesome job and so did the director. As you may or may not know the movie had a great cast and it’s these cast members make the movie interesting. Below is some information on some the characters.
Machete (Danny Trejo)
Danny Trejo plays Machete a Mexican Federale/Day laborer, who has a bad past in Mexico as his family were all murdered by a drug cartel called Tortez, which is played by Steven Segal. After the aftermath of his wife and kid being murdered by the Cartel’s gang, he decides to migrate illegally to the United States and start over and upon coming to the US, he gets hired by a gentleman called “Booth” played by Jeff Fahey, who hires him to assassinate “Senator McLaughlin” played by Robert De Niro. Things go bad for him while he is doing the job the was hired to do as he get’s setup, double crossed, and left for dead.

Senator McLaughlin (Robert De Niro)
Robert De Niro plays the corrupted senator politician who uses illegal immigration in an attempt to try to get votes, but only because, he can’t get elected any other way due to the fact that everybody knows hes a douche bag. There are many politicians like that in the Southwest United States, but were not going to mention any.

Sartana (Jessica Alba)
In the movie Jessica Alba plays the Mexican American, who works for Immigration, in other words “La Migra” she is feared by illegal aliens, being that she will turn them in and get them deported.

Luz (Michelle Rodriguez)
She is known as Luz, but the organization, which she leads calls her “She” and basically she can be compared to a female version of Che Guevara. She helps the immigrants by providing food and protection to them as these douche bag Minutemen are out there killing them.

Padr (Cheech Marin)
One of my favorite characters in this movie is Padr, which if I may add brought some comedy into the movie. He plays your typical corrupted priest and also Machete’s brother and being that there brothers they help each other even though he is a priest.
April (Lindsay Lohan)
To see Lohan on Machete was simply a plus, because she looked great and pretty much did what she normally does in regular life, which is use drugs and have lot’s of sex. Unfortunately we felt that she had a very small role in the movie and we wanted to see more of her.
Lt. Stillman (Don Johnson)
This movie introduces Don Johnson back on a big role in a movie, being that he was sort of absent from big roles for a while. He plays Lt. Stillman, a copy of that tough Sheriff from Arizona, Joe Arpaio, who has a bad reputation of being the type of Sheriff that abuses his power especially with illegal immigrants as he probably sees them as less human just because they crossed the border and have brown skin.

To conclude our review of Machete we thought you should know that it was a great movie and if you were a fan of of the Grindhouse/Mexploitation type of movies, you will probably enjoy it. The cast, and the work that was put in this movie was well worth the wait, but the immigration issue is what makes the movie, as it touches the reality of what is really going on behind the whole illegal immigration problem in this country. In the end the movie reminds you that without these illegal aliens our country will not survive as these people pick our fruits, vegetables, clean our houses, care for our children and make it possible for Americans, Canadians to live a comfortable existence. You learn that without these people you would be paying one dollar or maybe two for an Apple instead of now that you can get four apples for a dollar.
Because the movie has a lot of action in it and being that Danny Trejo did a great job in this leading role and that this is not the last thing we hear about Machete as there will be some sequels coming our way and not to mention the things that you learn from it, we are giving Machete a 10 out of 10.
