A major concern with Facebook has been privacy as there have been many issues these days with people on facebook. You hear it all the time that someone was killed for using the site and quite frankly Facebook doesn’t protect your privacy unless you follow some steps that ensure you will be safe. We will be putting out a tutorial on how to keep yourself while using facebook, so keep checking with us as we are currently working on it. To continue what we were saying about privacy and facebook we have some troubling news coming from Mary Hodder, chairman of the Personal Data Ecosystem Consortium.
Here’s what she had to say
“People never thought when they were posting this data [such as their phone numbers] that it would be accessible to anyone but friends. There’s a real mismatch of expectations around that. Even if Facebook comes back with new protections, they’re still saying, ‘Hey, get over it, your data is public.’ I feel badly for users that Facebook’s approach is ‘You give us anything and it’s all fair game.’”
“You need to explicitly choose to share your data before any app or website can access it and no private information is shared without your permission.”
It’s ok for friends to have access to this information as most of them have your info if they already have it if they really know you. Its kind of disturbing that app developers can have access to this sensitive information as anyone can become an app developer.
