Activision ‘experimenting’ with releasing more CoD DLC more often, might not just be multiplayer maps

by Paul Yan - on Jan 5th 2012 - No Comments

In a phone interview with Wired last month, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said that the company wants to release more downloadable content for the Call of Duty series more quickly, adding that some of the DLC might not just be multiplayer maps.

“The idea of giving people constant incremental playable content and making it so you’re never more than a few weeks away from the next new experience within the Call of Duty universe is part of what we’re experimenting with,” Hirshberg told Wired.

After noting how listening to its fans is important and how players want more DLC, Hirshberg added,  “One of the things that was most appealing when we were researching these ideas with consumers is the idea of breaking up the DLC so that it comes more often and more regularly,” said Hirshberg. “We want to provide DLC to people more often and also experiment with more of a variety in the forms of playable content.”

This experimentation could result in DLC comprising of  “missions or spec-op modes,” and not just multiplayer maps which are always cranked out for CoD games post-release.

by Elias - on Dec 27th 2011 - No Comments

If you are a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Elite subscriber you will probably be interested to know that the first downloadable content pack will become available on January 24, 2012. This DLC will first come out on XBL as usual and then eventually to the Playstation 3 via PSN. This news comes from Infinity Ward’s Creative strategist Robert Bowling, who said the following

“full season of content for Modern Warfare 3 kicks off for Elite subscribers January 24th on Xbox Live.”

It will be interesting to see what Infinity Ward is bringing to the table and let’s hope for the best, but it would be nice if Activision would make this dlc available on both xbl and psn at the same time.

Xbox avatar guns will be shot down on Jan. 1, 2012

by Paul Yan - on Dec 26th 2011 - No Comments

At the start of next year, Xbox 360 users will no longer be able to purchase guns for their virtual Xbox avatars.

Epic Games’ community manager “raczilla” revealed this over at Epic’s forums saying that a new policy will take place on Jan. 1, 2012 that will prohibit the sale of “gun-like avatar items” on Xbox Live’s Marketplace. So guns like the Lancer and Hammerburst from the Gears of War series will unfortunately be gone in five days.

The good news, though, is that you can keep any gun that’s been purchased before Jan. 1, so there’s still time for your avatar to get their virtual hands on a firearm. As for me, I think I’ll just contentedly stick with my dual lightsabers (sword > gun).
