Some screenshots + Boxart for Gungnir [PSP]

by Elias - on Apr 10th 2012 - No Comments

Take a look at these screenshots for upcoming Japanese import and tactical RPG Gungnir on the PSP. This game comes from the awesome people behind Riviera, Yggdra Union, and Knights in the Nightmare series and it will probably be one of the last awesome games to make it on to the PSP. It would be nice to see this game come out on the PS Vita as well, but that’s just wishful thinking on our part.

Gungnir will become available on June 20, 2012 exclusively on the PlayStation Potable (PSP), but for now enjoy these screenshots as well as boxart.

GTA V out in October, according to Rockstar dev’s CV

by Paul Yan - on Apr 9th 2012 - No Comments

Rockstar North has been mum on details regarding its upcoming Grand Theft Auto V game, but according to the CV (now removed) and Linkedin page (apparently now edited) of Rockstar’s character animator Alex O’Dwyer, GTA V will be getting released in October of this year, reports Joystiq (via CVG).

The release window would fall in line with some of the previous October-released GTA games, however, it was previously speculated that GTA V in particular wouldn’t be released until next year. Looks like we’ll have to wait until Rockstar gives the official word.

Pokemon Crossover Game Will Reach Western Shores

Pokemon: now helping decide the fates of feudal Japan

Ah, Pokemon. A series that has been standing strong since the mid 90′s. However one thing has yet to happen with the series: other than a few choice Pokemon making it into the Smash Bros series, Pokemon have yet to make it into any crossover games. Well apparently the Pokemon Company agreed that they needed a crossover, and decided to combine Pokemon with a popular strategy game series called Nobunaga’s Ambition. This crossover was released in Japan as Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition, in what I deem the most creative crossover title ever.

Now admittedly the Nobunaga’s Ambition series is much more popular in Japan than it will probably ever be here in the west, but that hasn’t stopped this game from deciding to make the voyage to foreign shores. Under the new name Pokemon Conquest, the game should pop up on the shelves of your game stores on June 18th in the United States. Sadly, no European or Australian release dates have been announced yet, but it will more than likely end up in those areas at a later date.

Pokemon Conquest takes place in the Ransei region and will have players taking the role of various warlords using Pokemon to decide the outcomes of their conquests. Each team gets up to six Pokemon to position on the battlefield and will take turns moving and attacking with their Pokemon until one side meets whatever the victory condition of the map happens to be. Warlords will also form a Link with their Pokemon, which will increase as they clear levels and lead to their Pokemon becoming stronger and even evolving. Each warlord also has a specific species of Pokemon they bond with most, being the only species that can reach 100% Link with that warlord.

The game will be rated E for Everyone when it arrives to the US, will be on the Nintendo DS handheld, and has already received a 34/40 rating from Famitsu praising how easy it is for children and adults to get into the game and for it’s high replay value.

Max Payne 3 Demo Impression [Pax East 2012]

by Elias - on Apr 7th 2012 - No Comments

If you follow the Max Payne series, you will probably be interested to know of some of the details that we found over at Pax East. As it turns out and chances are that you know this already, Max Payne is no longer a cop. He is a little bit older and pretty much an alcoholic spending most of his days drinking his life away. While at a bar, he runs into Raul Passos, who get’s him into all of this trouble and has him going around Sao Paulo and Brazil’s famous Favelas’.

Max Payne 3 is not an easy game and if you thought it was, we can assure you that it isn’t. This time around, Max uses painkillers as a way to heal himself, similar to the system seen in Kane & Lynch. With these painkillers he has the option to use 5 and re-charge them as the game progresses and in addition to that, you have bullet-time, which slows things up for you to make that perfect shot. If you shoot in the right location the bad guy dies faster and that is important to know.

We found that there were times in which it was hard to shoot and kill the bad guys even with bullet-time. To help with that, Rockstar added an auto-aiming system that allows you to aim better and that’s helpful in certain situations.

Max Payne 3 is an awesome game especially to those that are fans of the Grand Theft Auto series and that is because it uses R.A.G.E and the Euphoria engine. These game engines are the same used in GTA IV and Read Dead Redemption and will also be used in the upcoming GTA V game. With Max Payne being the third next-gen game coming from their studios, it is noticeable that the development team has put a lot of work on making this game.

My thoughts
While Rockstar Games is one of the best video game developers out there, there were some negative things noticeable with Max Payne 3. I personally never experienced this with them before and while there I felt like they lost touch with what the fans really want. The reality is that when you think of Rockstar Games, the first thing that comes to minds is GTA and this doesn’t mean that they should make one every year, but just offer more of that and occasional Max Payne, L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption.

Get us into these other franchises as slow as possible without forgetting that GTA is not Call of Duty. This means make a GTA every 2 or 3 years that way you keep things fresh and fun. The fanbase for Grand Theft Auto is getting older and soon the next generation of consoles will be coming out. Not everybody is going to buy one right away. After a while, older gamers are going to get tired of waiting and simply forget about the franchise.

In Conclusion
Go and get the game especially if you happen to be a fan of their Max Payne and the Grand Theft Auto series. It will be fun and it has an interesting story that the fans will like and most importantly, it’s a game coming from the same people behind GTA. It was really enjoyable and we’re sure that you will enjoy it as well while you wait for GTA V to come out.
