About the Playstation Portable (PSP)
Introduced to North America back in 2005 was the Playstation Portable that we all know as the PSP. Back then the handheld market was dominated by Nintendo with their DS and Gameboy, which were the only good handhelds available at the time. With Sony already having huge success with the Playstation 2 it was expected that that they would jump into the handheld market and what a great decision that was. The PSP went on to sell millions of their first generation handhelds and then updated versions came out in the following years. These were the PSP 2000, 3000 and later on the PS GO, which was the least successful of the four.
It was really an innovation in technology as you could play Playstation One games on it once the Playstation Network was introduced in 2006. Then of course GTA Liberty City Stories came out and that really showed how powerful this device was and still developers pushed it to the point where PS2 games were available to play. There were first party games that came out, which helped push the install base further as it was known as the handheld of the hardcore gamer and mostly serious gamers had it.
