According to Thrifty Nerd citing a Sony spokesperson at “a recent Sony Vita event,” downloadable PlayStation Vita games available on the PlayStation Network will be 40 percent cheaper in the U.S. compared to the physical copies sold at retail.
In other words, games bought at brick and mortar stores will cost $40 at most (reportedly), while digital versions of those same games would be just $23, reports Thrifty Nerd who adds that the “lack of hardware and packaging” are reasons for the price drop.
A discount is also reportedly being offered in Japan with downloadable PSN titles going for $40 versus $50 (at the highest) for boxed versions.
If the price drop for the U.S. is indeed true, then the high price of Sony’s expensive proprietary memory cards for PS Vita might not seem that bad after all.
