Nintendo’s smash-hit fighting series Super Smash Bros. pits Nintendo mascots like Mario and Link against each other in a virtual brawl. It’s a Nintendo fanboy’s wet dream, and sometime in the future, Sony fanboys might be seeing Kratos and Sweet Tooth go at it in Sony’s own version of Smash. Bros..
There’s quite a bit of unconfirmed evidence that suggests that we’ll be getting a Sony Smash Bros.-style game, one that’s being developed by California-based studio SuperBot Entertainment, whose website says that “We are an exclusive developer of Sony Computer Entertainment America and are currently in production of a yet-to-be announced PS3 title. “
A look at one of SuperBot’s online job listings reveals that the studio is looking for a senior combat designer with “a strong familiarity with fighting games and fighting game theory is a major plus.” Additionally, the posting describes the project as a “very amazing PS3 game” that’s “multiplayer”-based. Meanwhile, another job listing asks for a lead designer with a “strong familiarity with online mode and matchmaking design as they apply to console gaming.”
Other evidence of this Smash Bros.-style game apparently includes some things that SuperBot’s senior level designer Chris Molina posted on Twitter. While the tweets have been removed, NeoGAF saved some of them and posted them on their forum. One tweet linked to this familiar video, with the accompanying line reading: “New Sony Playstation commercial vaguely foreshadowing our soon to be announced title.”
Furthermore, there’s a leaked online screenshot apparently showing SuperBot developers playing with arcade fighting sticks. More juicily, though, is a look at character model images of Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth (pictured above) and an unidentified female character (posted here).
As for details about the title, Paul Gale Network reported earlier this month that the game is called “Title Fight,” a Smash Bros.-like game featuring Sony mascots including God of war 3’s Kratos, Parappa the Rapper, Fat Princess, Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper, and Killzone’s Colonel Meal Radec.
PGN goes on to say that there will be a LittleBigPlanet stage, as well as a level of Jak and Daxter’s “Sandover Village” (with Hot Shots Golf characters in the background).
The game is expected for release in 2012, according to PGN.
