On May 31, 2012, Valve officially confirmed their latest upcoming release DOTA 2, will be Free to Play. The creators of great games such as Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Team Fortress, and Portal, have also mentioned a DOTA Store to help prepare for its arrival. The DOTA Store can be accessed in the game, where its sole purpose is to allow players to purchase cool gear to pimp out their character. These items are “For Looks Only”, and don’t affect the game-play.
Gamers can get into the action now with the purchase of the DOTA 2 early access bundle of items which will include items created by Valve and community members that can immediately be carried over and used after the launch of the game to the public later this year on PC.
” The opening of the DOTA Store is a big part of our final push to launch,” said IceFrog, design lead on DOTA 2.” With support from the steam workshop, the majority of the items made available on day one where created and being sold by members of the community. By making the game Free to Play, we hope to give gamers the ability to decide how, and how much, they want to invest in the game.”[DOTA 2 Blog]
